The Department of English Language and Literature of the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts, UWB is one of the youngest departments of the faculty. It was established in 2003, when the original Department of Applied Linguistics was divided into separate language departments. For over 10 years the Department has been nurturing a unique bachelor study programme called Foreign Languages for Commercial Purposes together with other language departments of the faculty. The Department represents a youthful, vigorous and dynamic workplace that also endeavours to boost the so-called third role of UWB. In 2018 we introduced our very own facebook page, and since late 2022 anyone has been free to follow all the news from the Department on Instagram. In 2023 the Department was among the first faculty departments to switch to using a brand new, modern and much better structured website.
